Kenya School of Government (KSG), in collaboration with the Beyond Zero Initiative, hosted the second edition of the Leadership Program for County Social Transformation in Nairobi County. This follows the successful inaugural edition held in April this year. The program aims to empower Governors’ spouses with tools and strategies to drive grassroots social transformation in their respective regions.
The event was supported by the Margaret Kenyatta Institute (MKI), a partnership between KSG and the Beyond Zero Initiative. The Institute’s mission, aligned with KSG’s mandate, is to transform society by promoting Social Justice, Gender Equality, Health, Wellness, and Empowerment. This initiative highlights the recognition of women’s pivotal roles in fostering economic growth and social progress.
This time, the program brought together County First Ladies from Nairobi, Makueni, Tharaka Nithi, Wajir, Marsabit, Uasin Gishu, Siaya, Nyandarua, Bungoma, Nyamira and Kajiado for strategic discussions. Over the course of four days, they explored various topics, including championing social transformation causes, gender and social development, legacy building, and personal proficiency.
A highlight of the event was the caucus’s visit to the Rockefeller Foundation Regional Offices, where discussions focused on the transformative power of school feeding programs in advancing community well-being.
This second cohort exemplifies the growing commitment of county leaders to champion initiatives addressing critical societal needs, paving the way for a more inclusive and empowered future.
Notable speakers included Lady Justice Njoki Ndung’u, Prof. Nura Mohammed (Director General, KSG), Dr. Zipporah Kittony, Dr. Minnie Kibore (Children’s Investment Fund Foundation), Dr. Julius Kipngetich (Regional CEO, Jubilee Holdings) and Dr. Lucy Mathenge, UN Women. Their insights were instrumental in shaping discussions on sustainable social change.
Key figures such as Constance Gakonyo (Chief of Staff, Beyond Zero), Jane Kiragu (Beyond Zero Technical Advisor), and Lynette Otwori (Acting Director, MKI) also attended, along with senior administrative officials from KSG.
